Blog land is such an inspiring place.
One of the blogs that has been inspiring me is, "T's Daily Treasures".
Her crochet covered rocks always catch my eye.
I've been admiring them for a while and couldn't resist any longer...I had to make one!
I made sure to pick up a rock when I was at the beach last weekend.
Yesterday, I pulled some red crochet cotton from my stash and a size 6 crochet hook.
I found a pattern on Ravelry for "Lacy River Rocks". It had three different options
and the directions were very clear and simple. I made option three.
The pattern leaves a big hole in the back but I wanted mine to completely surround the rock.
A little improvising did the trick. I wrapped the front and side section
around the rock and crocheted it closed in the back.
My daughter thinks this is a bit silly and I understand...that crossed my mind too.
But, there's something about them that just drew me in and I had to try it.
Now, I'm addicted! This was so much fun to make and I love how it looks.
I can't wait to make another one. I have a feeling a trip to the beach is in my near future!
I like to think of it as natural, earth friendly art. It's just cotton and a rock.
So, there's nothing to harm the earth. It can be used for decoration or as a paper weight.
And, it's fun and allows for creativity as no two are alike and I can do some improvising on each one.

I love it! I've been wanting to make a few ever since I bought a small print on etsy of different sizes and colors of rocks all with crocheted 'cozys' on them. I like that you crocheted the back too.
Interesting! Haven't seen these before, but I like how the smooth rock really highlights the crochet design.
I love those rocks too-cool that you made one
It is indeed interesting and fun! I think a whole jar of crochet covered rocks would make a fab display - go for it!
Have a great weekend,
Xx
There is just something about a crochet covered rock, isn't there.

I seem to gather rocks wherever I travel. Something my Dad passed on to me, I guess. Never thought of dressing them up... great idea!
Those would make the best paperweights! Love that red thread against the gray rock. Very striking!
I agree - there is something very Zen about a crocheted rock. And why not? It's lovely! Wish I knew how to crochet - I'd make one myself...
I think this is a zen sort of thing. It's so pointless and such fun! celebrate your rocks! The next step is yarn bombing.
That's cool, although we don't have a beach nearby that has rocks. Nice work though.
I have a rock collection, and this idea has always interested me too. (must learn to crochet first) I have a lovely rock as a 'coaster weight' holding a stack of knitted coasters in place on my dry sink. I think these crocheted rocks would look great lined up along a mantel or shelf. Keep rockin'!! ;) Wendy
Can't wait to see yesterday's finds covered...and excited to make some of my own! :-)
Your crocheted rock turned out beautifully. I love the red cotton you used. Haven't done one in that color before. And, of course, I don't think it's silly to crochet covers for rocks at all. They make great decorative pieces. I'm glad I could inspire. I've yet to follow a pattern -- maybe I should. :) Best wishes, Tammy
That is so much fun.
