Wine Socks

I made a ruffly bottle sleeve a few years ago and I love it!  I use it all the time.
It works great to catch the little drips that run down the bottle and can leave a ring on the counter.

Since it works so well, I wanted to make more.  I have some yarn left over sock yarn from my
Zion hat.  It's the perfect color for catching drips of dark wine without worrying about stains.
So, I knitted one up.  Then, my daughter liked it so much that she asked for one.
It was fun and quick and the colors are perfect for someone else I know.
So, I now have three...

I decided to leave the ruffle off of these.
I like how they look with their cute little stripes.

I used size one double point needles and cast on 32.  I divided them onto four needles with eight stitches on each.  Then, I simply did a knit three, purl one rib for about 26 rows or about two inches and bound off in the same rib stitching.  I tucked in the ends and...voila...cute little wine socks!

I was a bit short on wine.  So, I just HAD to buy a few bottles for the photo shoot! ;-)

Cheers!

  1. I love these! Is the yarn you used a sock weight yarn? Just taking a guess since you're using size 1 needles. I might just have to make some of these for friends.

  2. Yup...it's sock weight yarn. Thanks for letting me know that I left that out of the post. I went back and updated it. Happy knitting! :-)

  4. Oh, yes! I am going to steal this idea this Christmas - it's the perfect gift for those who have everything! Do you think (in your spare time, haha) that you could whip up a ruffled one to show us? With pattern directions? Pretty please?

  5. These are cute - my man might actually use such a thing. Personally, I liked your ruffle version. Those would be great for girls night or a bridal shower. . .

  7. Okay, I'm not competing with you any more. You win. :-)

  8. Really clever! Are they a wool blend? I have som cotton fingering yarn. A 2/2 rib would probably lend enough stretch to the in-elastic fiber . . .

You want these clearly labeled though. If you bring them to a bridal shower , some naughty people might think they are little Peter Parkas or Willie Warmers.

  9. Your wine socks are just adorable. Never thought of anything like that before. Just wanted to say thanks for dropping by for a visit. I know what you mean about exercising in the heat, but it's either get used to it or don't do it...for me anyway. So, I go out very early...sometimes before daylight and get 'er done. Oh by the way, I love the smell of rain also. And we have been getting our fair share. Have a great weekend and come back for a visit soon.

  11. What a great idea!! I could use one for my balsamic vinegar, it is always running and staining the counter!
